4. Recorded/live audition. Students can submit a recent recording of their playing along with their application. Only CDs or cassette tapes only will be accepted. Do not send DVD or video tapes. Both live and recorded auditions should consist of two works: 1) An etude by any composer for your instrument showing your technical proficiency and 2) the exposition of any sonata or concerto by any composer for your instrument. Scales and orchestral excerpts are not required. The total length of the audition tape should be 10 minutes or less.

Please announce your name and instrument at the beginning of your recording. In addition, please write the name of the performer, instrument, and pieces performed on the tape/CD box. Name and instrument should also be listed on the tape/CD itself.

All CDs or tapes become the property of the SSMF and cannot be returned.

The requirement for audition tapes and letters of reference is waived for previous students who attended the SSMF in 2008 or earlier, with acceptance based on review of teacher evaluations. However, all students, including returning students, must submit an audition tape for scholarship consideration.
