Jaqueline Avent Music Scholarships

The Jaqueline Avent Music Scholarships were established in order to provide SSMF students exhibiting superior performance talents during the Concerto Competition Concert with scholarships for future SSMF seasons. Only currently enrolled SSMF students who are regular students during the academic year are eligible to receive one of the awards. These awards are given in the memory of Jaqueline Avent, a loving fan and patron for the SSMF especially the Concerto Competition.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three performers selected from all the participants in the Concerto Competition Concert. The scholarships will be:

Third Place: a $1,000 scholarship to return in the following season.
Second Place: a $2,000 scholarship to return in the following season.
First Place: a $3,000, or full scholarship to return in the following season.

Winners will be allowed until January 15th of the following year to decide to accept and utilize the scholarship. Should the winner decline the scholarship, it will be given to another deserving student showing great promise as a performer who might not be able to attend due to financial restrictions.

If declined, the scholarship cannot be made available at a later date, nor can the use of the scholarship be postponed until another year.

As well as the scholarship, prizewinners will be awarded a plaque signifying their achievement in performance. They will also be commemorated on a plaque located in the Guerry Hall Lobby, which will list all the past winners of the awards.

The winners will be decided immediately after the concert, and awards will be presented before all present.

The committee making the selections of award winners will consist of the SSMF Artistic Director, and two other invited guests from the Arts/Education world.

The same performer can win an award in subsequent seasons.

Decisions will be final, and not open to re-evaluation.
